COACH EDUCATION OFFICER

Football Canterbury (FC) is one of the most respected, largest, and culturally diverse Football Associations in NSW. There are over 165 different nationalities residing within the Football Canterbury footprint.

The Association has more than 20,000 individuals involved in football in its geographic region ranging from players in Under 6 to Over 50 competitions together with the various officials at all levels. Our competitions cover age groups where male, mixed (juniors only), and female football is available.

The Association is a member organisation of Football NSW and covers the inner west region of Sydney. The Association has clubs based in the Inner West, Burwood, Canada Bay, Canterbury-Bankstown, and Strathfield local government area and a part of the City of Sydney.

Football Canterbury seeks to appoint a suitable qualified and experienced Coach Education Officer to implement high quality, sustainable, and organised delivery of coach education courses/programs that aid the member clubs, volunteer team officials, and ultimately community players within the Association.

Note: This is an initial Contract position until 30th September 2024. A review will be undertaken in August 2024 for any potential continuation/amendment.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and presentation;
  • Sound understanding of the community sport landscape and dealing with volunteers in community sport;
  • High level computer skills including Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and website management;
  • Ability to deliver coach education courses and programs in accordance with Football Australia curriculum and guidelines set by Football NSW;
  • Ability to work closely with club volunteers to provide guidance on new and best practice coaching for community footballers; and
  • Compliance with the NSW Working with Children Check.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

ROLE:                  Coach Education Officer

LOCATION:       Various Association Venues (Office is in Ashfield, NSW)

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The Coach Education Officer is a Contract position until 30 September 2024 to deliver community football coach education experiences and courses to members of FC.

The Coach Education Officer will create a network of contacts within the member clubs and act as a resource for coach education experiences. They will assist clubs in creating and delivering programs that advance the level of coaching provided in community football.

The Coach Education Officer will work under the direction of the Football Operations & Programs Manager.

The role involves primary and significant engagement time outside of the traditional weekday work hours. Evening and Weekend engagement is required to fulfil the role.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

General

  • Represent FC in a professional manner at all times.
  • Perform all duties as required by the Chief Executive Officer and Football Operations & Programs Manager.
  • Provide leadership and support for the implementation of coach education experiences within the FC footprint.
  • Create an annual schedule of community coach education courses within the footprint.
  • Establish and maintain strong relations with member clubs.
  • Attend Football NSW and Football Australia workshops/courses as confirmed by the CEO.
  • Oversight of the annual Game Leader program.

Courses

  • Schedule with the Football Operations & Programs Manager an annual calendar of community coach education opportunities within the footprint. (Excludes advanced courses.)
  • Engage with Football NSW and Football Australia in the delivery of community coach education opportunities as needed to stay up to date with the latest curriculum.
  • Deliver the community football coach education courses as scheduled within the footprint and conduct any assessment as required.
  • Work with the Football Operations & Programs Manager on the rollout of Game Leader education and evaluation sessions as required.

Experiences

  • Establish best practice training techniques/plans for club delivery to community footballers.
  • Attend club training sessions to lead and/or support the conduct of a training session as a demonstration to observers.
  • Conduct at least two (2) information evenings in the calendar year with member clubs to provide an update on coaching trends that are beneficial to the community football level.

Qualifications

  • Current C-Diploma (or higher) Football Australia accreditation.
  • Approved or willing to become approved FA Foundation of Football course presenter.

Other

From time to time perform a broad range of duties to support the delivery of:

  • Association Events, gala days, functions, workshops, courses, meetings, finals series, and tournaments.
  • Support for football programs such as Walking Football, Representative League, the Association from time to time will conduct.
