BERTRAND PIERRE (BERT) POIRRIER* 1932

Born in Balmain, 1898 and lived in Burwood, Abbotsford and Strathfield. Died in Sydney, 1965

The Association’s All Age Sunday Men Division 1 competition, “Poirrier Trophy”, is named in his honour.

 

ANDY BURTON* 1940

Honour  bestowed:  1940.  Positions  held:  Foundation  Member;  Senior Vice President.  Life Member, Football  NSW. Foundation Member, Canterbury Park - now Canterbury Junior SC (CJSC)

Born in 1903, he was founder and secretary of CJSC and Australia Team Manager - Australia v South Africa Tour Series 1947 (Game 5).  Died in 1983. 

The Association’s All Age Men Division 4 competition, “Andrew Burton Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

SYLVAIN (SYL) LEON PIAUD* 1942

Honour bestowed: 1942. Positions held: Secretary/Treasurer. President/Secretary, Metters Soccer Football Club (later known as Canterbury JSC).

Born 1909 in France.   Australia Team Manager - Australia v South Africa Tour Series 1947 (Game 3). Died in 1992.

The Association’s Under 21 Division 2 competition, “Sylvain Piaud Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

CECIL (CEC) GORDON BARLOW* 1942

Honour bestowed: 1942. Positions held: President. Life Member, Football NSW (1963). Foundation Mamber, Hurlstone Park Wanderers Soccer Football Club. Life Member, Canterbury Referees Association.

Born 1899 in Sydney, he was a WW1 veteran, losing a leg in battle. CDSFA President for 31 consecutive seasons spanning 1933 to 1963. Died in 1975

The Association’s “Volunteer Recognition Award” is named in his honour.

The Association’s Under 15 Division 1 competition, “Cec Barlow Trophy”, is named in his honour.

 

WILLIAM (BILL) BRACKENBURY* 1965

Honour bestowed: 1965. Positions held: Secretary/Treasurer. Life Member, Football NSW (1961). Secretary, NSW Amateur Soccer Football Association. Foundation Member & Life Member, Hurlstone Park Wanderers Soccer Football Club.

Born 1907 in Sydney, he served as the CDSFA’s Secretary/Treasurer continuously for a quarter of a century, Secretary of the former NSW Amateur Soccer Football Association from 1957 to 1965 and was founding member of Hurlstone Park Wanderers Soccer Football Club at the age of 16. Died 1968.

The Association’s flagship male competition, the “Bill Brackenbury Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

JACK PAYNE* 1966

Honour bestowed: 1966. Positions held: President/Senior Vice President. Life Member, Canterbury Referees Association. Life Member, Hurlstone Park Wanderers Soccer Football Club.

Born 1915 in Sydney. Lived in Auburn and Lilyfield. Died 1990.

The Association’s Under 12 Division 2 competition, “Jack Payne Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

TREVOR JONES* 1967

Honour bestowed: 1967. Positions held: Senior Vice President. Life Member, Earlwood Wanderers Soccer Football Club.

Born 1910 in Sydney. Lived in Woollahra and Balmain. Died 1970.

The Association’s Under 12 Division 6 competition, “Trevor Jones Trophy”, is named in his honour.

 

TOM PETERSEN* 1967

Honour bestowed: 1967. Positions held: Senior Vice President.

Born 1906 in Brisbane. Lived in Clovelly, Kogarah and Punchbowl. Died 1973.

The Association’s Under 12 Division 4 competition, “Tom Peterson Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

ALLAN EAGLES* 1970

Honour bestowed: 1970. Positions held: Executive Committee. Club: Belmore Eagles Soccer Football Club.

The Association’s All Age Men Division 5 competition, “Allan Eagles Trophy”, is named in his honour.

 

TOM SANDERS* 1971

Honour bestowed: 1971. Positions held: Secretary. Secretary and Life Member, Marrickville Soccer Club (later Marrickville Football Club).

Born 1918, collated and typed MSC’s newsletter and match reports onto a Gestentner stencil every week with wife Hazel and set up nets and marked lines at Mackey Park. He also oversaw CDSFA’s competition game schedule, without computer assistance and helped start the Players’ Relief Fund. Died 1995.

The Association’s Under 16 Division 2 competition, “Tom Sanders Cup”, is named in his honour.

The Association’s Under 13 Division 1 competition, “Fred Corben Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

KEITH ANDREASON* 1972

Honour bestowed: 1972. Positions held: Canterbury Referees Association: Referee (1950-1996), Delegate to the Association, Life Member, Secretary, Senior Vice President, Treasurer.

The Association’s Under 13 Division 2 competition, “Keith Andreason Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

FRANK WILLIAM BROUGHTON* 1973

Honour bestowed: 1973. Positions held: Secretary. Life Member, Football NSW. Club: Punchbowl & District Soccer Club.

Born Staffordshire, UK in 1924. Lived in Marrickville. Died in 2000.

 

REGINALD (REG) ALLAN GREY* 1975

Honour bestowed: 1 December 1975. Positions held: President; Executive Committee; Representative Team Coach. Foundation Member and Life Member, Enfield Rovers Soccer Club.

Born in 1926, he served in a number of roles on the CDSFA executive committee before eventually serving as President. He mentored a number of aspiring administrators including Life Member and CDSFA CEO Ian Holmes. Died 2012, aged 85.

The Association’s Under 17 Division 1 competition, “Reg Grey Trophy”, is named in his honour.

 

VINCE LAWS* 1977

Honour bestowed: 1977. Positions held: Executive Committee; Appeals Committee; Grading Committee; Judiciary Committee; Representative Team Coach. Life Member, Canterbury Junior Soccer Club.

Born in 1929, he coached teams at the Canterbury Club for 33 consecutive years, including both Premier League grades for nine years, with the reserve grade squad winning the premiership for six consecutive years, for which he was presented with the CDSFA’s Perpetual Trophy. He died in 2020.

The Association’s Under 21 Division 1 competition, “Vince Laws Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

ALBERT (BERT) HARVEY* 1977

Honour bestowed: 1977. Positions held: Treasurer; Executive Committee; Competition Secretary; Recorder; Grading Committee; Appeals Committee. Life Member; Treasurer; Secretary; Senior Vice President, Marrickville Soccer Club. Life Member, Canterbury Referees Association.

Born in 1915, Bert was a stalwart of Marrickville Soccer Club over four decades, serving in senior club positions and also serving in various positions with CDSFA, involving an array of football activities. He died in 2006.

The Association’s Fair Play award, “The Bert Harvey Fair Play Award”, is named in his honour.

 

TONY GERAGHTY * 1979

Honour bestowed: 1979. Positions held: Executive Committee; Grading Committee; Judiciary Committee. Life Member, Earlwood Wanderers Soccer Football Club.

His death at the age of 50 from lung cancer robbed the CDSFA of a valuable mentor for club administrators and a person of balanced and fair judgment.

The Association’s over-35 Division 4 competition, “Tony Geraghty Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

TONY MARTIN SR* 1982

Honour bestowed: 1982. Positions held: President; Senior Vice President; Executive Committee. Clubs: Belmore Police Citizens Boys Club; Foundation Member & Life Member, Roselands Soccer Club.

The Association’s Under 14 Division 1 competition, “Tony Martin Sr Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

IAN HOLMES 1982

Honour bestowed: 1982. Positions held: President/Chairman; Secretary; Senior Vice President; Executive Committee/Board of Directors; Appeals Committee; Disciplinary Committee. Life Member, Football NSW (1987). Club: Belmore Police Citizens Boys Club.

Mr Holmes is the CDSFA’s Chief Executive Officer.

 

ALBERT STEIN 1982

Honour bestowed: 1982. Positions held: President; Senior Vice President; Treasurer; Executive Committee. Life Member; President, Hurlstone Park Wanderers Soccer Football Club.

Born in 1935, Albert has been recognised by Canterbury Council (later merged in City of Canterbury Bankstown), for his service to the community and his work and commitment to Hurlstone Park Wanderers and the CDSFA.

The Association’s Under 18 Division 1 competition, “E.A. (Albert) Stein Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

RON PIPER* 1982

Honour bestowed: 1982. Positions held: President; Executive Committee; Competition Secretary and Treasurer, Canterbury Referees Association.

 

GRACE MARTIN 1982

Honour bestowed: 1982. Positions held: Secretary; Executive Committee; Competition Secretary; Registrar; Judiciary. Clubs: Belmore Police Citizens Boys Club. Foundation Member & Life Member, Roselands Soccer Club.

Grace has been instrumental in the creation, development and fostering of female participation in football throughout the CDSFA. Having served as CDSFA’s Registrar, Competition Secretary and Judiciary Committee Chair for decades, she was recognised in 1992 with a Football NSW State Award.

The Association’s flagship female competition, “Grace Martin Trophy”, is named in her honour.

Honour bestowed: 1982. Positions held: President; Executive Committee. Life Member, Western Suburbs Soccer Association. Club: APIA Leichhardt Tigers Junior Soccer Club.

The Association’s Under 13 Division 4 competition, “Jim North Cup”, is named in his honour.

The Association’s Under 12 Division 5 competition, “Peter Corben Trophy”, is named in his honour.

The “Harry Friday Award” for the CRA’s Male Senior Referee of the Year was named in his honour.

The Association’s Under 14 Division 3 competition, “Harry Friday Cup”, was also named in his honour.

 

JOE BALSAMO* 1988

The Association’s Over 35 Division 7 competition, “Joe Balsamo Memorial Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

EILEEN POTTER* 1997

Honour bestowed: 1997. Positions held: Ladies Football Committee. Club: Canterbury Junior Soccer Club.

The Association’s Over 30 Women Division 1 competition, “Eileen Potter Cup”, is named in her honour.

 

MALCOLM JENNER* 1997

Honour bestowed: 1997. Positions held: Junior Vice President; Assistant Secretary; Grading Committee; Appeals Committee. Life Member; President; Vice President, Canterbury Junior Soccer Club.

Born in 1946, his soccer career highlights include meeting Manchester United's George Best, Dennis Law and Sir Bobby Charlton. In 1979 he received the Gold award medallion from Canterbury Council in recognition of his achievements in soccer.

 

RON ROYSTON OAM 2003

Honour bestowed: 2003. Positions held: Junior Vice President; Executive Committee; Grading Committee; Appeals Committee. Life Member, Marrickville Soccer Club.

Ron was awarded an OAM in 2016 for services to football and Marrickville FC. He also coached until 2020 and continues to be a Patron and legend of Marrickville FC.

The Association’s Under 13 Division 5 competition, “Ron Royston Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

CHARLES TAMA 2006

Honour bestowed: 2006. Positions held: Senior Vice President; Junior Vice President; Executive Committee; Judiciary Committee; Grading Committee; Disciplinary Committee. Life Member; President; Executive Committee, Enfield Rovers Soccer Club.

During 2006 Charles was a driving force behind Canterbury applying to Soccer New South Wales for a licence to run elite women and girls in the elite football competition conducted by Soccer NSW.

 

RAYMOND WEBB* 2009

Honour bestowed: 2016. Positions held: Senior Vice President; Secretary; Executive Committee/Board of Directors; Judiciary Committee; Disciplinary Committee; Appeals Committee. Life Member, Canterbury Referees Association. Club: Canterbury Junior Soccer Club.

The Association’s Over 35 Division 2 competition, “Kuchappan Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

ARMANDO GARDIMAN AM  2018

Honour bestowed: 2018. Positions Held:  Chairman; Senior Vice President; Executive Committee/Board of Directors; Appeals Committee; Disciplinary Committee. Club: Five Dock FC.

Given the demands of his professional career as Managing Director of Turner Freeman Lawyers, the time Armando has given to the football community in particular the CDSFA, is extremely valued. In recognition of this service to the CDSFA and football more generally, he was honoured as a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia honour in 2016.

The Association’s Over 35 Division 5 competition, “Gardiman Cup”, is named in his honour.

 

YOUCEF KABBARA 2022

Honour bestowed: 2022. Position Held:  Executive Committee/Board of Directors.

Kabbara spent over 20 years on the committee of the Canterbury Referee’s Association where he has held many offices over the years, including President. Very active on the board of Football Canterbury, Kabbara was an important bridge between the Association, CRA, and emerging communities.

He is a Life Member of the CRA, a recipient of the Cec Barlow Award, and winner of the Chairman’s Award from Western Sydney Wanderers for his work with diverse communities. He has also served as president for both Punchbowl United FC and Australian National Sports Club.
