IAN HOLMES OAM

Football Canterbury’s own Ian Holmes has been recognised for his substantial contributions to football (particularly community football) in the Australia Day 2026 Honours list.

Ian is the recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).

Ian is a Life Member of Football Canterbury (1982) and has been inducted into the Association’s Hall of Fame (2022) as following a 50-year plus association to the district and community football as a player, coach, administrator, and volunteer that begun at Belmore Police Boys Club. Ian significantly served Football Canterbury, then Canterbury and District Soccer Football Association, as its President/Chairman on four (4) separate occasions and its CEO for almost a decade. He’s a Football NSW Life Member (1987) as well as an inductee to the Football Australia Hall of Fame (2024).

The volunteer and administrative service Ian has given to football stretches from grassroots to the national level of the game. He has witnessed the significant changes that have occurred in football including the bringing together of amateur and semi-professional state football bodies to become what is now Football NSW.

The Board and Management of Football Canterbury extend their congratulations to Ian for what is a very well-deserved honour and recognition of service above and beyond with the awarding of an OAM in the Australia Day 2026 honours.
