Rep League boosted by U. Personal Training partnership

Published Fri 21 Jul 2023

Football Canterbury’s Rep League continues to be a success story in 2023, and a partnership with U. Personal Training has proved a valuable boost to the competition.

Neil Ivison has been running his local personal training business since creating it during the COVID pandemic and as an avid football fan saw the Rep League as an opportunity to grow his business and to support football at the local level.

“The covid lockdown lead us to start thinking about creating a boutique personal training studio,” Ivison said.

“With U., we have two studios, one in Marrickville and one in Lewisham, both are running well and we are proud of the business we have created.”

“My daughter Ana plays for Apia Leichhardt Tigers Juniors G10’s… her coach mentioned the Rep League and would we be interested in trialling, and then I heard that the league was looking for sponsorship.”

“We feel it is important to give back to the community and support the local clubs,” Ivison said of the sponsorship.

“The leagues and clubs that are run by Football Canterbury are awesome and continue to grow, and U. PT is proud to be a sponsor and support the growth of the Canterbury Football league.”

The Rep League has gone from strength to strength, giving Football Canterbury players a chance to play teams from other associations with a focus on proper systems and tactics to better develop their skills.

The league has over 200 players and coaches involved in the program this year and is showing significant growth in quality after its second year.

Football Canterbury Technical & Development Manager, Andrew Morris thanked U. Personal Training, for their assistance and reinforced the importance of the Rep League as a player and club development pathway.

“We are very grateful to Neil and U. Personal Training for their support, and it has been so valuable in helping us to continue facilitating the Rep League this year,” Morris said.

“It gives our players a chance to play against other associations and gauge their development progress, but also place more of a focus on systems and playing at a high standard for those players and set examples for clubs to follow to increase the opportunities for all of our players footballing potential.”

“As an example our G13 girls are playing 9v9, which is something we would like to introduce locally to keep up with standards across the world and in Australia, adding more technical development.”

Rep League action will continue through until end of the 2023 season, and the next games are August 14th at Strathfield Park.
