Trent Thomas appointed to lead Football Canterbury as CEO

Published Wed 26 Jul 2023

Football Canterbury is pleased to announce that Trent Thomas has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Association.

This follows the recent announcement of Anthony Bathurst’s resignation from the position.

Thomas has held key roles at a high level in Australia in both Hockey (administration) and Baseball (officiating), but his remarkable experience and passion for community sport (having formally commenced volunteering activities from his early teens) has seen him work with the Association since 2005, making him well suited for his new role.

Football Canterbury Chairman Nick Kambounias welcomed Thomas to the position and expressed his excitement at working closely with him moving forward.

"It gives me great pleasure to formally announce the appointment of Trent Thomas as the new CEO of Football Canterbury”, Kambounias said.

“Trent has a wealth of experience having been with Football Canterbury for 18 years so it was only fitting for him to step into the role.

“No one knows Football Canterbury like Trent does so his move to the CEO position will be seamless, and we will work closely with Trent in due course on the difficult task of finding a suitable replacement for him in his current role.”

Thomas said he was looking forward to stepping up to lead the organisation moving forward.

“I am very excited and feel privileged to be taking our Association into the future,” Thomas said.

“Football Canterbury has played a significant part in my life, and I understand the great opportunity I have to help shape the direction of the organisation and of football in our local community as we move forward.”

The Board has already begun the process of implementing new strategic and business planning processes, and documentation, and will continue to develop this area of the organisation with Thomas.

Thomas will formally commence as Chief Executive Officer on September 1st, 2023.
