William Winfield selected in NAIDOC Cup squad

William Winfield from Cooks River Titans has been selected in the NSW U16 team that will compete against Northern NSW in the NAIDOC Cup in July.

Winfield has been playing in Football Canterbury competitions since 2019, spending three years with Marrickville Red Devils before joining Titans in 2022.

Played every year, the NAIDOC Cup features teams from Football NSW and Northern NSW Football who will go head-to-head in a bid to take home the Cup.

The 2023 edition has expanded to a three-day event from Monday 3rd July to Wednesday 5th July.

The NAIDOC Cup coincides with NAIDOC Week, a national week held in July that celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Football NSW and Northern NSW Football each enter male and female teams in the U14 and U16 age groups, with squads made up of First Nations players. The tournament also engages First Nations coaches and referees from across the state.

The NAIDOC Cup is one initiative of the Football Legacy Program, a $10 million investment from the NSW Government into the NSW football community to develop the game ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The event is in partnership with Football NSW’s Indigenous Advisory Group.
