Ashfield Pirates Football Club (APFC) is a passionate local community football club which was established in early 2015 to ensure the city had a football club that put children's health, wellbeing and safety first.

Over the past several years, APFC has worked closely with local schools to ensure that all children can participate in the world game, including over 50 scholarships for local children that could not have been able to play football due to lack of funds or without a team environment to build self-confidence.

From a zero base in 2015, the Pirates are now over 400 players strong and continuing to grow at a rapid pace.

Jean Kouriel, who co-founded APFC with Adam Spencer-Carr, has been involved in football for more than 30 years and was the coach and age coordinator of a local inner west club in the CDSFA.

Due to an identified need for a new organisation to cater for Ashfield’s young, sports-driven community, Kouriel and a few local parents started APFC as a new venture.

From the outset, APFC volunteers and members have been passionate about making the club a success and community-focused.

The club encourages parents and children that just want to have fun and be part of the game we all love, to get involved.

APFC also found that many of its players are very competitive and in 2019 the club introduced the Pirates Development Program to encourage those boys or girls that are "competitive" to make the regional teams and become future Australian representatives, to join the Pirates.

In 2019, APFC won the coveted “Crystal Cup”, awarded every year at the CDSFA’s Volunteers Recognition Dinner.

APFC is about Fun, Teamwork, Fair Play and Respect.
