Two free female football programs will kick off locally this September, hosted by Football Canterbury.

The new programs are free to register for, with the MiniTillies program for girls aged 7-14, and Intro to Football seeking female players aged 15 and above who are looking for a way into the game, or who are wanting to return.

Facilitated by Football Canterbury and the NSW Government Football Legacy program both programs will run for five weeks beginning early September, comprised of a four week skills course and finishing off with a fun tournament to round out the program and give participants a chance to showcase the skills they have picked up.

What are MiniTillies and Intro to Football?

  • Casual, fun-filled introductions to football for women and girls
  • Five week program
  • Four weeks of skills, with a tournament to finish
  • Free to register

Female Development Officer Fiona Craven said the program was a great way for former players to get back into the sport, or for women and girls looking to get into football on the back of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“There’s been a surge in interest in football off the back of the Matildas and the World Cup, and these programs create an easy pathway for women and girls to get into football for the first time, or to return if they haven’t played for a while,” Craven said.

“It’s free, it will be fun, and it’s a great chance to try football in a comfortable environment before committing to an extended season.”
