GMT Review – Round 3

Published Mon 26 Apr 2021

It was another weekend to remember as we examine all the action from the latest round of the GMT competition.

Leichhardt Saints have been in sparkling form to start the season as they claimed a third win on the bounce while Strathfield and Balmain put on a spectacle in their showdown.

Strathfield – Balmain 3-3

A six goal thriller played out at Strathfield Park on Sunday afternoon with 3-3 the full time score.

A world class finish from Zoe Zagami broke the deadlock for Balmain before Natalie Pajor returned fire to equalise for the hosts.

Balmain then raced to a 3-1 lead with Jarrah Curtis and Holly Davine getting their names on the scoresheet before Pajor was able to reduce the deficit with her brace.

The visitors were able to hold onto their lead throughout the second half but once again it was Pajor who came back to haunt them as she claimed her hat-trick with 20 minutes left on the clock.

A point each sees both sides league positions remain unchanged with Strathfield in fourth and Balmain just above them in third.

Next on the agenda for Strathfield is a visit to Ewen Park to meet Hurlstone Park while Balmain face off against Russell Lea at Queen Elizabeth.

Hurlstone Park – Leichhardt Saints 0-2

A late flurry of goals saw Leichhardt Saints overcome Hurlstone Park 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

A very tight performance saw both sides create a number of chances throughout the match.

The showdown remained goalless for 80 minutes until the Saints finally broke through courtesy of Lucia Gonzalez.

Their opener was then followed up by a Macy Diett goal which ended up being enough for the visitors as they maintained their perfect start to the season.

They will be looking for their fourth straight win next Sunday when they go head to head against ACU at King George Park while a similar performance next week might just do the job for Mark Higgins’ side as they face Strathfield.

ACU Football Club – Russell Lea 0-0

A 0-0 stalemate played out between ACU and Russell Lea on the campus grounds on Sunday afternoon.

Neither side could find the elusive goal in this contest as both sides had to settle for a share of the points.

It will be a case of one versus two next weekend as Saints welcome ACU to King George Park while Russell Lea host Balmain.
