State Cup Finals wrap

Enfield Football Club claimed their first ever State Cup title on Sunday, as their U/16 Boys side defeated Blue Mountains FC 2-0 at Cromer Park.

It marks the first ever State Cup title for the club, and President Victor Jeries was full of praise for the team.

“[I am] incredibly proud of our team,” Jeries said.

“They have played superbly and shown the rewards that hard work, training and commitment can produce.”

“The passion the team has for football is incredible, and with the addition of the State Cup within their usual football regime, they have thrived on the competitiveness and that has given them an extra incentive to play at their best ability.”

Jeries also spoke highly of coach Danny Silvestri for the improvements he has overseen in the team after they recently also added a Kanga Cup title and Minor Premiership to their trophy cabinet in recent weeks.

“Danny has made an amazing impact on this team,” Jeries said.

“These boys used to play second division in U/13’s, and to transform them from a second division side to State Cup winners in three years is truly remarkable.”

Football Canterbury was well represented in Sunday’s matches, with Burwood making it to the final of the U/18 Men’s where they fell to Cronulla Seagulls, and Earlwood appearing in the Robertson Cup final before being defeated by the same opponent.

Three Canterbury Referees Association match officials were appointed to officiate the U/17 Men’s Grand Final; Samuel Chen in the middle of the park along with assistants Luca Gillard and Carlo Furlan.
